Mark Ryden paintings

The other day we were introduced to the beautiful and disturbing paintings of Mark Ryden. With his masterful technique and disquieting content, Ryden became one of the leaders of the movement on the West Coast that, during the 90's, wanted to return to the art of painting.

Mark Ryden was born in Medford Oregon. He received a BFA in 1987 from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles where he paints slowly and happily amidst his countless collections of trinkets, statues, skeletons, books, paintings and antique toys.

Very, very beautiful paintings, indeed!

First of all congratulations on your great blog which I only recently found and which I immediately added to my favs. Thank you also for introducing me to this painter. I've just been looking through his amazing work. Indeed you are quite right, it's quite disconcerting, initially they just look pretty but as you look closer it's quite frightening sometimes. Very, very creative and masterfully painted.
