Watchmen - the movie

Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons. Originally published by DC Comics as a monthly limited series from 1986 to 1987, it was later republished as a trade paperback, which popularized the "graphic novel" format. To date, Watchmen remains the only graphic novel to win a Hugo Award, and is also the only graphic novel to appear on Time Magazine's 2005 list of "the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present".

The comic book Watchmen will be adapted for the big screen by Zack Snyder , the director of 300, another adaptation of a comic book, in this case by Frank Miller, with release date on 6 March 2009 in the USA.

Alan Moore opposed the idea of turning Watchmen into a movie and its name will not be credited and therefore he will not appear associated with the movie in any way. He also didn't approve the other adaptations of his comics - "From Hell", 2001, from the Hughes brothers, with a plot about Jack the Ripper, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, 2003, from Stephen Norrington, and V for Vendetta, 2005, from James McTeigue and the Wachwoski brothers - and never wrote the adaptations of his own movies to the cinema. Dave Gibbons, on the other hand, is associated with the production of the Watchmen movie.
