STREET ANATOMY - a group exhibition on human anatomy

STREET ANATOMY
a group exhibition focusing on representations of human anatomy in contemporary art and pop culture

September 3 – November 19

OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, September 3, 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.

International Museum of Surgical Science
1524 North Lake Shore Drive
Chicago, IL

On view will be works that incorporate anatomical imagery in a variety of mediums, including painted skateboards, street art, and cast dark chocolate, by artists from across the US and abroad, as well as a photo gallery of anatomical tattoos.

This exhibition, the latest in the International Museum of Surgical Science’s ongoing “Anatomy in the Gallery” program, is guest curated by me, Vanessa Ruiz, with the help of two other Street Anatomy contributors, Jenny Drucker and Heather Tompkins. Heather’s work will actually be featured in the show which we’re all looking forward to seeing.

The exhibition will feature nine artists representative of the label-defying figures involved with this movement:

David Foox
Emilio Garcia
Stephen J Shanabrook
Jason Freeny
Noah Scalin
CAKE
Robyn Roth
Heather Tompkins
Ryan Gerdes

The show will provide the public with an understanding of this cultural movement’s widening scope and undeniable impact, demonstrating why anatomical imagery continues to fascinate both those inside and those outside the medical world.

If you’re in Chicago, come out for some incredible art, food, drinks, a fabulous DJ and of course to meet the Street Anatomy community!

****Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in the creation of an anatomically themed group graffiti piece.****

FREE AND OPEN TO ALL!
