This Fear You May Know, solo exhibition by Skinner in White Walls Galery

White Walls Gallery will present This Fear You May Know, a solo exhibition by Sacramento-based, multi-media artist, Skinner. Blending variant sources of fantasy art accented with nuances of social commentary, Skinner’s works in this exhibit illustrate his observations of a growing obsession with destruction and conflict, and how fear guides the course of social action.

The opening reception for This Fear You May Know will be held at White Walls Gallery on Saturday, August 14th, 2010 from 7-11pm. The exhibit
will be on display through September 4th, 2010 and is open to the public.

Inspired by science fiction fantasy books and films from the 1920s to the 1950s, and comic books published in the 1960s and 70s, Skinner paints large works of devastated wasteland landscapes and remarkably detailed ferocious monsters and installs them in self-constructed ambient gallery spaces that illustrate hyperbolized metaphors of the desolation, chaos, and suffering he sees in the world.

The artwork in This Fear You May Know will be comprised of 24 medium and
large-scale acrylic and airbrushed paintings, sculptural pieces, and custom airbrushed masks. These pieces are based on the artist’s interests in mythology, the occult, cultural myths and folk tales, and modified by his nostalgic approach to comics and magazines.

One of the most prolific artists of his time, Skinner will add this exhibition at White Walls to his 2010 schedule, which also includes international shows at the Design Museum in Amsterdam as well as at Rome’s Museum of Contemporary Art.

Skinner is a self-taught artist from Sacramento, California who has exhibited internationally in Italy, Germany and The Netherlands, and nationally in Texas, Oregon and New York. His work has been featured in the publications Juxtapoz, Hi Fructose, and Beautiful/Decay
