Mijn Schatje

Beautiful pop surrealist illustration by the young female artist Mijn Schatje. Mijn Schatje is a 25 year old artist, resident in Paris, named Marie Blanco Hendrickx. She is a double graduate from Fine Art and Graphic design schools in France.

She got to be an active participant in the music scene, where she's creating many LP and CD covers for renowned « French Touch » labels like Record Makers (founded by the duo Air) and Ekler’O’Shock. She won international acclaim with her work for TimeRelease (US) and the Taiwanese label Avant Garden.

Mijn Schatje delivers artistic direction and illustrations for the likes of sportswear brand Reebok and the New York model agency Women Management. The whole of the ’08 collection of the hip Italian fashion house Fornarina is currently subject to the unique Mijn Schatje style, bringing her enchanted characters to the Milan and Paris fashion weeks and to highstreet fashion stores of Los Angeles, Korea, Hong Kong, London, Las Vegas and Milan... In the meantime, Mijn collaborated with Playstation / Sony entertainment and recently started giving lectures and workshops at the Parsons American school of Design in Paris.

Her work is pure, dreamy and sophisticated and has been described as "digital lowbrow" or "Pop Surrealism" and compared to the likes of masters Ray Caesar and Mark Ryden (already featured in this blog in January 2007).

Future projects include a solo show at KochXBos in Amsterdam (early 2009), an artist monography to come up in 2010 along with a solo show at Corey Helford Gallery (L.A.).
